This Is For ALL The #GadgetGirls

Your sofa might not be worth much to you, but what about your laptop, your tablet, your SmartPhone, your “Fancy-Schmancy” home gadgets, your jewelry (rare costume jewelry included), your childhood memorabilia or all those designer pieces that you scored at 75% off?

It’s important to secure your belongings and if you’re renting, you might want to consider signing up for Renters Insurance. Chances are you have insurance for your Smartphone, IPhone, Tablet, MacBook Air or your favorite Laptop, so where you live and the coveted merchandise you’ve purchased over the years deserves to be protected and insured.

I am an extreme optimist, but sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. When I owned a home the lender required homeowners insurance, but studies suggest less than half of renters have a renters insurance policy.

Some apartment communities make a policy mandatory, with your lease agreement, but most don’t. Several years ago, I bought a $30,000.00 policy to cover damage, vandalism & burglary for my Beach Pad for about $12 a month which averaged $250 per year. All things considered, it’s not too bad, because if I were a victim of a theft (a police report is required in order to file a renters’ insurance claim) or my building suffered any structural damage (I live in California and have felt the shakes and trembles from an earthquake) and my belongings were compromised, I could have filed a claim and received a check from my Insurance Company for approximately $30,000.00. Would $30,000.00 ease your pain if something happened to your #HotHouse?

If you don’t have renter’s insurance think about how you can add it to your monthly budget, so you can have peace of mind. Some employers may offer discounted rates off renter’s insurance with third-party companies, so it’s worth checking out your benefits package, too.  In my opinion having renters insurance is a must, so take the time to do research and spend the extra money to get it. In the meantime, you can think positive and not worry about things that may or may not happen in the future, but it’s definitely better to be prepared just in case, and better to be safe than sorry.
